Haiku
is a form of traditional Japanese poetry. Its most common form today is
three lines of verse in which the first line contains five syllables,
the second line seven, and the third line five syllables again. When I
write Stargate haikus, my goal is to capture a moment or an idea.
Sometimes
I am inspired by a photo or image. My first SG1 haiku was the one showing
Jack O'Neill in amongst the trees with his M16 ready and the sunlight
and shadowy patterns of the leaves on his face. It's always been one of
my favorite Jack pictures.
Other
times I have the idea for the haiku and I go looking for a picture that
will fit the poem's theme. The haiku with Sam staring up at the gate as
she gets ready to step through for the first time with Jack looking at
her was one of those. I made the screen capture of that moment myself
becuase it conveys perfectly the mood I wanted to establish.
