Author's Note: This is as close as I can get to a ‘true’ drabble. I’m amazed I was able to keep it this short.

“Not This Time”

No sign of a chute.

You did it, son.

The gate is gone and we’re still safe.

But damn you, Jack, I didn’t send you up there to sacrifice yourself!

No, I’d just sent him up there in the hope that he could save our sixes… again. That Jack O’Neill, with all his sarcasm and his ‘who me?’ attitude, should command the fate and fortune of an entire planet isn’t a novel idea around here.

I’ve had to place that burden squarely on his shoulders too many times.

One too many times, it seems.

“This is Observer 2. I have a visual on a chute.”

I smile.

Not this time after all.
